1. Basic principles. This document covers the basic principles of copy cataloging, including what books are referred to the Cataloging Section (CatS). Copy catalogers use other documents as well, particularly those under the header Workflow and the Aleph Collections Chart.

Copy Cataloging. Linked Data copy catalogers will perform essentially the same tasks in a BIBFRAME ecosystem as they have traditionally in a MARC ecosystem: searching databases, finding existing bibliographic data, making local edits, checking access points, and saving data into a local system.
Copy Cataloging: Sharing Records. For the average library user, more information might be of use. It should be possible to determine the publisher or distributor, and a summary of the contents might be helpful. Extra information should be added if the cataloger feels it would be of benefit to the patrons who will be using the library catalog.
Copy Cataloging Library of Congress Dewey Practices: The Dewey Program at the Library of Congress. If the record is distributed without Dewey Program review, the second indicator remains at 4 (Assigned by agency other than LC), and the first indicator (Type of edition) is left at the value in the original record.
Some copy catalogers are authorized to assign call numbers via searching and finding them in another library’s catalog. Check with your team manager for what you should or should not do regarding assigning call numbers.
